POCKETConsult "Search*" POCKETConsult includes a search form that allows users to enter search terms on their handheld and execute them on the Web. Simply enter in a product and a search term. After synchronizing, the searches can be run across all Elsevier databases. |

Content Clipper™ Certain Elsevier web sites, such as cecilmedicine.com, allow you to save content directly to your PDA. Just click the "Send to PDA" button on the web site, synchronize, and you will see your custom content in a channel called "Clipped Content" on your PDA. |

Bookmarks* Certain mobile content, including living book updates and First Consult medical reference files, have embedded bookmarks. The links save a bookmark which is uploaded to the POCKETConsult web site when you sync. From the bookmarks section of the web site, you can then link back to the product's web site to get more detailed content on that topic. |

Installation and Personalization As a registered and authenticated user, you can download and activate POCKETConsult from the link in your product site. You will be guided through installation of the handheld application on your PC and handheld device. |

| Downloading content is easy - just use the POCKETConsult web site to choose your selections, the sync your PDA to download them! | |
| Channels Page | |
|
The channel page lists all the content you have rights to. To select the content you want, just check the boxes next to your desired channels and click 'Save Selections'. Certain channels will allow you to customize their content. For example, journals channels will require you to choose individual journal titles you want abstracts for. In this case, click the link next to the channel to select the titles you want. Channels are given when you authorize a web site for use with POCKETConsult. To get more channels, go to a POCKETConsult enabled web site, click the link to go to POCKETConsult, and enter your user name. Your additional channels will automatically show up in your channels list. |

The library page lists all the e-books you currently have. You can get additional e-books in three ways:
Please Note: An e-book can only be read on one device. If you change devices, you will not be able to download the book to your new device, nor will you be able to beam it between PDAs. If you have gotten a new device, please call customer service to reset your device ID and enable downloads to the new device. |

| The Content Clipper™ page shows all the pieces of content you have downloaded to your PDA from partner web sites. You do not have to choose to download items within POCKETConsult ? that is done for you automatically. You can use this page to remove items you no longer want on your PDA by checking the boxes next to the items you want to remove and click the 'Remove' button. | |
| Saved Searches* | |
| Search terms submitted from your PDA will show up here after you have synchronized. To execute a search, select the product site you want to search and click the search button. A new window will open up, showing the results of your search in the product's site. You can browse the resulting content within the product site. To clean up your searches, check the boxes next to the items you want to remove and click the 'Remove' button. |

| Bookmarks submitted from your PDA will show up here after you have synchronized. To execute a bookmark, simply click on the bookmark link. The destination article or web page will open in a new window, allowing you to browse to detailed content within the product site. | PDA Installation | ||
| This section addresses common issues that you may find during the PDA installation process: | ||
| ISSUE: | I get a dialog box telling me that user ID was not found. | |
| ANSWER: | The installation has probably already been run and the user ID was erased from the desktop. To re-install or install for a different user return to the POCKETConsult web site and go through the installation process again. Making sure to click on the link to install user id before installing the software. | |
| ISSUE: | For Pocket PC users only: I get a dialog box telling me the install was unable to install my user ID. | |
| ANSWER: | ActiveSync must be installed and the device must be connected and turned on. Test your connection by syncing with ActiveSync. | |
| ISSUE: | I exited the Mobipocket Reader installation before it completed and the POCKETConsult installation did not seem to succeed. | |
| ANSWER: | If you exit the Mobipocket Reader installation (a separate install embedded within POCKETConsult) before it completes you will need to run the POCKETConsult installation again. | |
| ISSUE: | For Palm users only: I get a dialog box telling me that the installation failed and that I should verify HotSync is installed. | |
| ANSWER: | For Palm it is not necessary to have the device connected while the POCKETConsult installation program runs but you must have HotSync installed and at least one HotSync user on the desktop. You can test this by cradling your device and performing a HotSync. | |
| ISSUE: | For Palm users only: I finished the POCKETConsult installation program but the installation process does not seem to be completed. | |
| ANSWER: | You must perform a HotSync to finish the installation process. The POCKETConsult installation places files in the HotSync install folders but they will not actually be installed to the device until a HotSync is performed. | |
| ISSUE: | What happens if I get a new PDA? | |
| ANSWER: | If you change devices, you need to reinstall PC on your machine. If you have previously download eBooks, call customer service to reset the Mobipocket device ID (PID) for your account. This is required to maintain security for your downloaded eBooks. | |
| ISSUE: | I get "eNews not found" when I click on POCKETConsult on my device. | |
| ANSWER: | This is commonly fixed by doing the following:

| ISSUE: | I get a "File not found" error when trying to open PC on device the first time. | |
| ANSWER: | You have installed POCKETConsult, but haven't downloaded content yet. You need to resync your device making sure to give the counduit enough time to download all the content. This may take over a minute. If this doesn't work, reinstall POCKETConsult and try again. | |
| PDA Synchronization | ||
| This section addresses common issues that you may find during subsequent synchronizations: | ||
| ISSUE: | For Palm users only: I do not see my HotSync username listed in the dropdown list when prompted during installation. | |
| ANSWER: | You are probably installing on a public machine or a machine that is not yours and therefore your HotSync user profile may not exist on that machine. You can use the Palm Desktop application to create a new user profile for yourself on that machine. | |
| ISSUE: | For Pocket PC users only: When I sync I get an unresolved item in ActiveSync. | |
| ANSWER: | For pre Windows Mobile 5 devices Please perform the following steps:

| ISSUE: | For Pocket PC users only: When I sync I don't appear to get new content on my device. | |
| ANSWER: | Synchronize your device again. | |
| ISSUE: | Even though I synchronized my device, I don't see my searches | |
| ANSWER: | Non Windows Mobile 5 devices: If you were already logged onto MD Consult, you will need to refresh your POCKETConsult page. (Right click, then click on Refresh.) |

| ANSWER: | Windows Mobile 5 devices: PocketConsult does not support searches or bookmarks for Windows Mobile 5 devices. |

| Updating PDA Content | ||
| This section addresses common issues that you may find when selecting content for your PDA: | ||
| ISSUE: | I don't have any journals on my PDA. | |
| ANSWER: | Check that you have selected journals in the My Journals page. If you have not selected any journals, go to the Add Journals page and follow the instructions to select one or more journals. Once you've selected all the journals you want on your PDA, synchronize your PDA. | |
| ISSUE: | How is POCKETConsult content updated? | |
| ANSWER: | POCKETConsult Content is updated when you sync your PDA with your desktop. News content is updated daily, and your PDA carries the last 5 days worth of news stories. Drug Updates are updated every Thursday night, available Friday morning, and your PDA carries the last 5 weeks worth of updates. Journal content is updated daily, and for the Journals you have selected, the most recent version of your Journal will be stored and updated on your handheld. When a new version of a Journal is published, POCKETConsult will replace the version on your PDA. | |
| ISSUE: | What happens if I run out of space on my device? | |
| ANSWER: | If you select too many journals or channels to download, it is possible you can run out of space on your device, and content synchronization will fail. We recommend deselecting some journals/channels and syncing again. | |
| Navigating POCKETConsult | ||
| This section addresses common issues that you may find when navigating through POCKETConsult on your PDA: | ||
| ISSUE: | What is the best way to move between pages of text in POCKETConsult? | |
| ANSWER: | Use the device's "Up" and "Down" keys to move up and down in a page. | |
| ISSUE: | I tapped on the PDA to scroll down to the next page on a news article. Why doesn't the back icon take me back to the previous text within the article? | |
| ANSWER: | When you tap the screen to scroll down within the article, you remain in the same page. The back button will take you back to the previous page. To page up and down within the news article page, use your device's "Up" and "Down" buttons. | |
| ISSUE: | The scroll bar is too small. Is there a way round this? | |
| ANSWER: | Yes. From your device, open PocketConsult:
This functionality will enable you to scroll page to page by simply clicking anywhere on either the left (to go back) or right (to go forward) hand sides of the screen. |

| Uninstalling POCKETConsult | ||
| ISSUE: | How do I uninstall POCKETConsult? | |
| ANSWER: | If you want to uninstall POCKETConsult, you must use the POCKETConsult uninstaller to remove the application and the Mobipocket.com Reader from your computer. Then you need to remove POCKETConsult from your handheld device. Detailed step by step instructions on uninstalling can be found here. | |
| ISSUE: | On some devices, the POCKETConsult Launcher Icon can sometimes launch the MobiReader library page. The application is still available via the eNews channel of MobiReader. | |
| ISSUE: | POCKETConsult, when installed on PocketPC devices, can at times have trouble syncing using ActiveSync. Thus far re-cradling the device has corrected any errors, so users should re-cradle their device, let the sync process complete, and then notify Elsevier if this does not correct the problem. | |
| ISSUE: | When navigating back multiple pages, Mobipocket sometimes loses the appropriate formatting. Please click the "back" button on the toolbar and the formatting should return to normal. | |
| ISSUE: | Tungsten T5 devices with OS images created prior to June 3, 2005 have a problem downloading large files such as the FIRSTConsult to the Tungsten T5 main device memory. This is a known issue for which Palm has released an updated version of the device’s software. Before using your Tungsten T5 with PocketConsult please refer to this page to confirm the software version on your device and, if necessary, follow the instructions to upgrade your T5 device located on this page. |

| ISSUE: | Installing Palm applications (.prc and .pdb) under Windows Vista
The Palm Install tool and Palm Quick Install are not complatible with Windows Vista. Please refer to this page for instructions on how to install palm applications from a vista machine. Note, eBooks are stored as palm applications files, .prc, and need to be manually downloaded after the eBook reader is installed and activated.. |

Palm or Devices running the Palm Operating System
The Mobipocket eBook reader that PocketConsult uses supports the device types listed below. If you have one of these devices types, you should select Manual Download as the device OS on the user profile page and then download and install the appropriate eReader from here. If you select Manual Download, the site directs you to the book library page where you can download your books.
